Katie Chizuko Solien is an architectural designer living and working in New York City. She has worked on a number of cultural and institutional projects with offices such as NADAAA, Ultramoderne and SO – IL, and has contributed to projects with AD–WO that have been featured at the Museum of Modern Art, 19th and 18th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia, Chicago Architecture Biennial, and Studio Museum in Harlem. She currently works at Kligerman AD.
She completed her Post-Professional Master of Architecture with a Certificate in Media + Modernity Studies from Princeton University. Her Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Architecture, and minor degrees in Drawing, Sustainability Studies and Theory of Art + Design are from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Katie’s academic work and research is focused on the logistical underpinnings of carceral landscapes and the spatial practices that take place in spite of them. Her essay Domesticating Barracks was included in Carceral Architecture (ed. Basile Baudez + Victoria Bergbauer; Javits, 2025). In 2026, Katie was appointed to the Board of Directors at the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation— a nonprofit museum which she has been involved with since its opening in 2011.
